Welcome to the Book Club
Welcome to the Book Club.
Every two weeks, I post a new book here from whatever I’ve been reading.
Fiction, nonfiction, memoir, something strange I picked up at the airport. There’s no theme, no syllabus, no moral homework. Just books that made me think, feel, or pause long enough to write something down.
You’ll find short thoughts under each one, a bit of reviews, just reflections. How it hit me. What I took from it. How it might hit you too.
Eventually, this might turn into a real book club, something you can read along with in real time. For now, feel free to browse the archive.
Take what you need, skip what you don’t.
New book drops every two weeks. Or whenever it feels right.
Book This Week
Project Hail Mary

I don’t usually read sci-fi. But this one was weirdly easy to get into. It felt like a guy vlogging in space while the world is literally ending and somehow, it works.
The premise is wild but simple: Earth is dying, and one man wakes up alone on a spaceship with no memory and a mission that might save humanity. There’s a lot of science talk, but it’s not pretentious. The explanations actually make sense, and I found myself curious instead of zoning out.
What I didn’t expect was how chatty the main character is. In fact, too chatty. Like, I get that he’s isolated and cracking jokes to stay sane, but the tone felt off. I kept imagining the character as a woman for some reason: the voice, the way emotions are written, the way he reflects. It just didn’t click as male for me. Not sure if that’s a flaw in the writing or just in my head, but the disconnect was there. (Don't come for me gender warriors)
Still, I have to admit: the pacing is tight, the stakes are high, and the story pulls you along without dragging. The mix of loneliness, problem-solving, and small moments of discovery, that’s what stuck with me. Not one big scene, but the overall feeling of being out there, trying to survive with nothing but brain cells and whatever tools you can hack together.
They’re turning it into a movie, and Ryan Gosling is playing the lead. I don’t know how I feel about that. He’s too smooth. I can’t picture him nerding out over microbiology without looking like he’s about to break into a cologne ad. He does suit the chatty persona.
Who should read this? If you like sci-fi but hate heavy sci-fi, this is a good pick. Guys who want something light but not dumb will enjoy it. It's not too long, and it does not drag a scene or situation so the progression pace is enjoyable. It's also good if you like puzzles, science, or just want to escape Earth for a bit.
Enjoy.
